The Development Division’s Research Programmes Bureau coordinates pilot and research programmes of direct interest to EYATH which offer the company the know-how it needs to carry on its work.
In the summer of 2007 the company became a trailblazer as the first company in Greece to run an irrigation programme in the Halastra – Kalochori area using treated wastewater from the Thessaloniki Wastewater Treatment Facility. As part of a special plan to recharge the Sindos aquifer the company also conducted tests as part of its obligations under the European GABARDINE project (http://cordis.europa.eu/publication/rcn/13034_en.html), to better understand groundwater artificial recharge techniques, primarily using treatment wastewater.
Following the completion of a pilot programme, EYATH now also systematically applies sludge from the wastewater treatment facility to crops.
In order to explore the impact of climate change on water supplies, the company took part in the CC-WaterS project (see left). At present the CC-WARE project (a continuation of the previous project) is underway and relates to water resources and climate change in SE Europe. EYATH is also involved in the REAL-t-SO programme relating to sewerage overflows in coastal cities such as Thessaloniki. For more information click on the logos below.
